“I'm not just inspired by music to make music… everything is sound” said Hermeto Pascoal.
His biography tells us that, as a child, he chose sounds to play with. Fascinated by nature, he built his sound world that he would later exchange for instruments: first the accordion and then the piano and wind instruments. However, to these he never stopped adding a series of unconventional instruments ranging from teapots, metal sheets, children's instruments, among others, with which he builds his own varied sounds. For this reason, he earned the nickname “music wizard”. Pascoal's sound is truly magic. As he himself says “the musician is a bit of a magician, but without tricks”.
Composer par excellence, he uses the art of improvisation in a rare way, which has led him to perform on stages and festivals, inspire musicians from the most varied corners of the world and win a series of distinctions ranging from the Latin Grammy to Doctor Honoris Causa.
He has been in several groups, but his first mark is the magic of creativity, which when combined with his ability to improvise music, certainly makes him a universal musical genius, who Miles Davis considered "the most impressive musician in the world". He defends freedom and claims to have only one religion: music.
