MIRRI LOBO

It is nearly impossible to discuss the music associated with the island of Sal without acknowledging the significant contribution of Mirri Lobo. He was born in Pedra de Lume, Sal Island, which is the ancestral area of the Sousa Lobo family, and has become a trademark of the island. Mirri was already immersed in a musical environment within his family, influenced notably by his uncle Antoninho Lobo, a prominent figure in serenades on Sal Island during the 1950s, as well as the musical talents of his cousins Ildo Lobo and LuÃs Lobo. At the age of 19, while living on Santiago Island, Mirri's talent emerged. In 1981, he returned to his hometown and joined the band "Clave de Sal," where he crossed paths with Antero Simas.
In 1982, Mirri gained considerable notoriety with his participation in the prestigious national music competition "Todo o Mundo Canta," where he came in second place. A few years later, he recorded his first album, "Ama Violao," which featured songs from contemporary and classical composers. Mirri received recognition with his first two singles, "Bela" and the theme "Alma Violão," dedicated to LuÃs Rendall. His international career took off, with Portugal being the first stop of many countries that followed.
Between 1988 and 2009, Mirri recorded three more solo albums. After a hiatus of almost 12 years, he embarked on the second phase of his career with the album "Caldera Preta," through which he left an indelible mark on our music. The song "Incmenda d'Terra" became an anthem for all Cabo Verdeans. Since then, Mirri has received numerous national awards.
In February 2019, he released "Salgadim," which features compositions by young authors as well as his own works. The album pays tribute to the island of Sal, specifically the village of "Pedra de Lume," which is not only Mirri Lobo's true birthplace but also the cradle of the Sousa Lobo family. The album stands out for its diverse range of Cabo Verdean rhythms.
For our KJF 23, one of the most charismatic voices of the island extends a warm welcome to all.
