One of the leading European fusion band of the 80s and 90s, Sixun is back for us!

15 years after their last live appearance, these "six musicians in one" are getting a new lease of life. Alongside a digital reissue of their entire discography (a dozen albums), the band have signed to BMG for a 13th album, due for release in October. This dual presence is designed to help rediscover the group's major work and raise their profile internationally.

Founded in 1984, Sixun have built up a distinctive career over more than 20 years, culminating in their 2006 Django d'Or award for their live album at La Cigale. An international group with strong, inspired personalities, Sixun has produced a skillful blend of Afro-jazz-funk melodies and rhythms, served up by top-flight soloists (Alain Debiossat, Louis Winsberg), colourful harmony (Michel Alibo, Jean-Pierre Como) and an impressive rhythmic tandem (Stephane Edouard, Paco Sery).

Reunited during the Covid lockdown, the six friends have once again combined their strengths and talents to create this new repertoire of original works, and rebuild the Sixun 'sound' for which they are renowned. Recorded at the Studio de Meudon, this new opus brings back the band's incandescent groove, with powerful rhythms and haunting melodies, lush harmonies and inspired improvisations.

"Unixsity" is all about freedom. It's a flamboyant invitation to celebrate the triumph of a unique music. Love of music, energy, creativity: these are the hallmarks of this new album, which illustrates Sixun's unique identity.
